Less than two miles from Cedar Ridge you can dine and play golf adjacent to beautiful Swan Lake at either the Portage Country Club or Saddle Ridge Golf Course. The Portage Country Club is a well-groomed 18-hole golf course where the public is always welcome to play golf then dine at a lovely restuarant overlooking Swan Lake! Five minutes in most any direction you can find more fun: Fishing and boating, canoeing, swimming, picnic areas galore, an Amish community with quaint country stores, and serene walking paths along the National Scenic Ice Age Trail. Casade Mountain Ski Resort offers snowmobiling, biking, skiing and snowboarding. Nearby are horseback riding trails. If hunting and fishing are your passion, within a half mile of our inn are private and public (State of Wisconsin) hunting perserves and spring fed lakes and streams to explore. Okay, so you prefer indoor sports! Only minutes away is Ho-Chuck Casino; the Portage Center for the Arts and Crystal Grand Music Theatre, who prides themselves in sponsoring a wealth of year around entertainment. Are you a history buff? Then Cedar Ridge Bed & Breakfast should be your home port! Highway 33 is actually an old stage coach road. At the rear of our 80-acre country home is the Military Road, the oldest highway in Wisconsin, linking Fort Howard (Green Bay) with Fort Winnebago (Portage). Within five minutes of our inn is the John Muir Boyhood Home Historic Site. John Muir was an early naturalist and Father of the American National Park System. Less than eight miles to the west is the city of Portage, Wisconsin, our state's third oldest settlement. Visit the Surgeons Quarters at Fort Winnebago, a Northwest Territory frontier fort; the Indian Agency House, and the home of 1921 Pulitzer Prize Winner, Zona Gale, now the Museum at the Portage. Portage is also the home of the American Legion State Headquarters and Museum.
