About Brisbane House
Because there’s no other house like it in Wisconsin, Brisbane House is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Its singular form—tall and skinny, carved out of the stone from the nearby bluff—and the legacy of the man who built it is something we wish to share! William Henry Brisbane was an ardent abolitionist from South Carolina and built the house in 1868. We’re preserving his legacy by showcasing contemporary art created exclusively by internationally-known artists of color. Come to celebrate your friends, family, and your story. Leave inspired by Brisbane’s courage to write your next chapter. We restored it in 2022 to share with you! Sleeps up to 10 guests in five bedrooms (seven beds total) on 18 gorgeous wooded acres. Bring your book club, your American Players Theater friends, your dinner club, celebrate your birthday, Father's or Mother's Day, have a ski weekend or family reunion! It's perfect for a board or writing retreat. You can even bring Fido. Follow our adventures on Instagram at restore.brisbane.house.
