About Phipps Inn Bed and Breakfast

If you’d like to stay in one of the loveliest Victorian houses in the St. Croix Valley, choose the Phipps Inn. This Queen Anne style mansion was built in 1884 by railroad magnate William Phipps and has been a bed and breakfast since 1990.  Restaurants, a walk along the river and many unique shops are 4 blocks away from the Historic Third Street neighborhood.

Choose a guest room with either a king-size or queen-size bed.  All the rooms/suites have whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and private baths.  You can also choose to have breakfast delivered to the room or have it served course by course in the elegant dining room. Filtered water and soft drinks are complimentary and always available.

The Phipps Inn is close to shopping, the arts and many outdoor activities.  Hiking – or strolling – to the waterfalls in Willow River State Park is a favorite of guests.  If quiet time in this big house is more your style the parlor, music room and billiards room on the first floor and the third floor reading and game room are just what you need.

Here are our rooms and suites:

Queen Anne's Suite: The double-sided fireplace can be enjoyed from the king-size bed  or the sunken whirlpool tub in the 4 season sunporch. This suite also has a shower for two as well as a clawfoot soaking tub. This is a second floor room.

Bridget's Suite: The usual reaction to this room is "Wow!. Look at the size of that bathroom!" It is large because it was once the library.  A king-size bed, a table and chairs in the turret and a wood-burning fireplace complete this bright and welcoming room. This is a second floor room.

Master Suite: The bathroom in the Master Suite also gets many wows bracuse it was originally a bedroom. This handsome room features an Amish-made king size bed and wood-burning fireplace. The private porch for two - reached by climbing through the window - is great for warm weather breakfasts. This room is a second floor room.

Peacock Chamber: This third floor room has a half-canopy mahogany queen-size bed and the largest whirlpool tub in the house. The room opens to the redwood-paneled former ballroom area with games, books and a spot to relax in the turret.

Willow Chamber: The Willow Chamber is named for the nearby Willow River.  Like the Peacock Chamber it is on the third floor and opens to the common area.  It's like having your own living room! The whirlpool tub is in a quiet nook that looks towards the St. Croix River. The bed is queen-size.

Victoria's Room: The bay windows, queen-size brass bed and comfy chairs in this second floor room make it cozy and inviting.   A gas fireplace is opposite the bed and the whirlpol tub is snug in a corner.
