A trip through Central Wisconsin’s river country is a trip for the traveler who loves diversity. Starting in the southeastern part of the region, you’ll find the pristine beauty of Green Lake. In the summer months, one can bask in that beauty while pontooning on the water or you can play some golf on its championship golf courses. Green Lake also hosts many celebrations, while nearby Princeton hosts the Princeton Flea Market, which occurs every Saturday from May to October.
Stevens Point and Wausau are situated in the central and northern parts of the region. Rib Mountain State Park, the Point Brewery, a multitude of museums, and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point are located there. Wausau offers a host of exciting hiking, running and biking options. The top skiing resort in Wisconsin is located in the Wausau area. Granite Peak offers 75 runs, a 700-foot mountain, two high speed lifts, and skiing mid-November through early April.
Just east of Stevens Point, the Iola area is a boundless source of natural beauty at its finest, along with great fishing. Every July, Iola is host to the Midwest’s largest antique automobile show, the Iola Car Show. Further on down the road, the Waupaca Chain O’Lakes area calls to those travelers who love the crystal clearness of this long chain of lakes, not to mention those fun-filled trips to tour the Chain O’Lakes area.
Water sports are one of the top reasons why people come here. How about renting a pontoon for a day or even 1/2 day for sightseeing, swimming from the sandbars, exploring and enjoying the picnic lunch? For a no hassle meal, stop by Clear Water Harbor on Taylor Lake on the Chain. Waitress service right to your boat! Check out their concert schedule too, as the outdoor music on the floating stage is a ton of fun.
This, of course, just scratches the surface of what Central Wisconsin has to offer. The whole area has an abundance of local festivals, historical societies, hidden parks and glens that you will want to savor and tuck away in your own personal fond memories spot. Our innkeepers are waiting to treat you to their hearty breakfasts and comfortable accommodations, all while informing you about the exciting diversity and countryside throughout the Central Wisconsin region.
