The Two Rivers area is a place where visitors can find a mix of attractions and recreational opportunities, ranging from submarines to art museums. The city is home to several historical and fascinating attractions, all of which are must-sees while you visit.
What better way to see the sites of Two Rivers than by bike? The Mariners Trail is the longest continuous scenic view of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. The six-mile paved trail connects Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Hugging the scenic shore of Lake Michigan, the views are nothing less than spectacular. On to The Rawley Point Recreational Trail, you'll find ahard-packed limestone base that connects Two Rivers with Point Beach State Forest. The six-mile trail winds through pine and hemlock forests, dunes and fields.
Also unique to the Two Rivers area, lighthouses provide for specatular places to see. The North Pier Lighthouse is located on the end of the North pier. It was used to help provide vessels with a visual fix on the harbor. As was the case with most Great Lakes Lights, the Coast Guard determined that the light no longer performed a necessary function, and was extinguished in 1969. The U.S Coast Guard has also operated a lighthouse at Rawley Point since 1853. This relocated lighthouse rises 113 feet above Lake Michigan. Therefore, its lantern burns as one of the largest and brightest on the Great Lakes.
For nature lovers, the Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve houses a globally significant wildlife habitat located between Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Woodland Dunes is located near an ecological "tension zone". The zone lies between two distinct areas of natural vegetation. Both northern and southern species of plants and animals are found here.
Not to leave out the variety of unique museums you can find in the city, The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type. With 1.5 million pieces of wood type and more than 1,000 styles and sizes of patterns, Hamilton's collection is one of the premier wood type collections in the world.
Sure to satisfy the many varieties of interets, Two Rivers is an ideal place to spend a weekend exploring. We can't wait to welcome you!
