Sheer Memories' Guest Cottage, Muscoda

Did you know that of the 11 National Scenic Trails in the U.S., Wisconsin has one of them? Wisconsin hosts the Ice Age Trail. It's a 1,000+ mile trail that traces the last advance of the glacier that covered much of the state during the Ice Age. There are lots of Wisconsin B&Bs along the way, so get to work on achieving “Thousand Miler” status with the Ice Age Alliance.

Our state is one of the crown jewels in the nation’s rails-to-trails conservancy program, with more than 90 Wisconsin bike trails in the system. These are former railroad corridors that have been converted into recreational trails. In 1965, the Elroy-Sparta State Trail became the first rail trail in the U.S. Most of Wisconsin’s 41 State Trails are rail trails. Try the Badger State Trail in south central Wisconsin. Or, the Glacial Drumlin State Trail in central Wisconsin. There's the Gandy Dancer State Trail in far Northwestern Wisconsin, and also the Ahnapee State Trail near Door County.

Will it be the exercise challenge or the stunning scenery that takes your breath away? We'll guess both, and your search begins here.

Fargo Mansion trails

Fargo Mansion Inn, Lake Mills

We'll start in Lake Mills, with the Fargo Mansion Inn and Sweet Autumn Inn. Both are nearby to The Glacial Drumlin Bike trail, a 54 mile scenic bike trail located in the Southern Gateways Regions with the trail headquarters located in Lake Mills. This trail is ideal for the entire family, with a relatively easy grade throughout the trail, making it an enjoyable ride for the entire family. Wtih Lake Mills being almost in the middle of the trail, it makes a great spot to get off the trail for the evening and enjoy the hisoric atmoshpere of downtown Lake Mills.

Next we'll take a look at Green Lake, with Miller's Daughter B&B and Greenway House B&B both nearby to a good number of trails. Enjoy a leisurely ride through the Green Lake Conference Center grounds with views of "Big Green" or take a longer ride on the Mascoutin Valley State trail which has 21 miles of trails that run along the old Milwaukee railroad bed and cross Green Lake, Winnebago, and Fond du Lac counties. There are trails available for all levels of bikers. Green Lake is also within 10 minutes of the Kettle Moraine Trails, which has wonderful biking trails.

Red Forest B&B, Two Rivers

Red Forest B&B, located in Two Rivers, welcomes you to either bike or hike the Rawley Point Trail, Mariner's Trail, or the Ice Age Trail. The Rawley Point Trail is six miles of hard packed limestone trail connecting Two Rivers and Point Beach State Park. The trail winds through pine and hemlock forests, dunes and fields. The Mariner's Trail is six miles of paved lakeshore trail joining Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Enjoy the lake view and flower gardens along the way. www.marinerstrail.net  The Ice Age Trail segments that pass through Two Rivers takes you through Woodland Dunes and the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Honeybee Inn, Horicon

Finally, there's Honeybee Inn in Horicon, and with the Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Area at their door step, there are many trails available for hiking and biking. The Wild Goose Trail, a 38 mile trail going along the west side of the Marsh, is perfect for both.

We could go on and on about all the many hiking, biking, and running/walking trails in Wisconsin! We've given you just a few examples of WBBA member inns that are on the Hiking, Biking, and Running Trail but there's plenty more. You can find a complete list of member inns on the trail on our website under the "Area Experiences" tab.
