When the glacier moved diagonally through our beautiful state some 10,000 years ago, it gifted Southeastern Wisconsin with a myriad of rich resources. Our lakes, dramatic valleys, and high, forested moraines have delighted eager tourists for more than 100 years. The Southeastern Region of Wisconsin offers travelers incredible natural beauty and contrast. From Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest city, and clear up and down the shore, long stretches of Lake Michigan shoreline stir the imagination and coax one to retreat and wander the beaches. There are many impressive lakes in this region including Geneva Lake, originally the home of the Potawatomi Native Americans.
Milwaukee, meaning “meeting place by the water”, has long been knowns for its cultural and ethnic diversity. Also impressive is a strong collective support for the arts, hence there continues to be an abundance of live theater, musical productions, ethnic festivals, and Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival.
Just east of Plymouth, the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest begins in Glen Beulah and runs south down to Kewaskum. Not surprisingly, this magnificent state park is a major destination for many, with over 200 miles of hiking, nature, horseback riding and cross-country ski trails available. Stopping at The Ice Age Center in Dundee will provide you with helpful information about this vast recreation area.
In Eagle, Old World Wisconsin is a living history museum which honors the pioneers who settled Wisconsin. Fifty-five historic structures remind us of pioneers. Also nearby to Eagle is the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest, with more than 150 miles of hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails, for year around enjoyment.
